Dairy Industry Spotlight Dairy Industry Spotlight

The first half of 2013 has brought upon a number of new dairy products across a number of platforms. Growing dairy companies such as Chobani, Alpina, YoCrunch, and Fage have come out with new flavors and new combinations to please their increasing fan base. Many of the new yogurt products this year are being introduced in a new packaging concept where toppings such as granola or chocolate chips separated and are able to be added to the yogurt at the consumer's discretion. Blended yogurts and flavors that are kid-friendly have also become popular. Another trend is the food truck concept. Chobani's Cho-Mobile travels across the country to different events to meet fans and customers and promote new flavors as well as their charity called Shepherd's Gift. Friendship Dairy is premiering their first ever food truck, which will travel across the NYC metro area and serve cottage cheese creations with mix-ins ranging from Wasabi to Pumpkin Seeds. Friendship hopes to show that healthy snacking can easily be integrated into everyone's lifestyle and can be delicious as well!
Recruiting Q & A
Q. I am a HR Manager looking to fill a number of positions for my company. I am receiving an overwhelming number of resumes. What are some red flags I should look out for so I only interview quality candidates?
A. Although there are many different red flags, here are some of the most common ones to keep an eye out for:
~ The Job Hopper - This is someone who has been at multiple jobs for short periods of time (approximately 2 ½ years or less). With this type of person you will tend to notice a trend of serial job hopping; moving from one job to the next and not achieving longevity with any employer.
~ Gaps of Employment - This is when a candidate has an extended period of time (approximately 6 months or longer) of not being employed. This could indicate a person who has unrealistic expectations for a new role or it can indicate someone who is not serious about finding their next position. Yes, there are many good reasons for long terms of unemployment as related to our economy in 2008-2010, but especially if you see this on the resume more than once, this can be a major red flag also.
~ Relevance - Pay close attention to their last two places of employment and/or job titles. Do the last two or three most recent positions relate to your opening and what tasks they will be doing on a daily basis? How are their skills and experience relevant to what you need for your business? Would your position be a promotion or is a lateral career move?
~ Verifying Education - Some candidates will list a school they have attended but fail to indicate a degree to years attended. This misleads employers to assume that they have an education and/or degree when they may not be the case.
Office News
In March, KCO team members flew out to sunny Anaheim, CA for the 2013 Natural Products Expo West Convention. KCO exhibited at the event and met with many of our current clients who are on the West Coast. Team members got to learn about new natural and organic food manufacturers and their products that will be out on the market this year. Thousands of companies exhibited at the trade show and over 50,000 attendees made their way through the Anaheim Convention Center to learn about new trends in food, cosmetics, and personal care products. KCO was thrilled with the turn out and is so excited at this new push for heathier and more sustainable food choices.

On May 5th, KCO walked in the National MS Society - Upstate NY Chapter WALK MS 2013. The walk was held at the Saratoga Casino & Raceway in Saratoga Springs, NY. The KCO team was joined by significant others, family, and friends as they walked to support research for a cure as well as awareness within the community. This was a cause very close to our hearts, as a KCO team member was diagnosed with MS last year.
